Verrado fell to Desert Mountain 5-2 in a hard-fought game that saw some impressive individual performances. Desert Mountain came out strong in the first inning, putting up 3 runs, and despite a couple of quiet innings, they added another in the fourth and one more in the fifth to hold a 5-0 lead. Verrado made a late push with 2 runs in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to catch up.
Q. Starbuck of Desert Mountain was a key contributor, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. His solid performance helped set the tone, and he played a crucial role in pushing his team to victory. R. Carrington, also from Desert Mountain, added to the offense with 2 hits, including a home run, and 3 RBIs. He was one of the standouts in the game, providing some much-needed power to the lineup.
Zach Durben’s pitching for Desert Mountain was also a highlight. He pitched an efficient inning, striking out 2 batters and not allowing any hits or runs. Alex Weeks added to the team’s dominant pitching with 2 hitless innings, striking out 3 and keeping Verrado off the board.
For Verrado, Nolan Raissle contributed a hit and an RBI, while Ronal Urquiola also came through with a key hit and RBI. Ethan Williams added a stolen base to his 1-for-2 performance at the plate. Despite their efforts, Verrado couldn’t generate enough offense to mount a full comeback.
Braxton Bjur pitched 6 innings for Verrado, striking out 8 but allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. Despite the loss, Bjur’s ability to work through challenges and rack up strikeouts kept the game competitive. Ethan Williams came on in relief and finished with a scoreless inning, giving the team a glimmer of hope, but Desert Mountain’s solid pitching and early lead proved too much.
In the end, Desert Mountain’s strong all-around performance, led by key hitters and dominant pitching, was enough to secure the 5-2 win over Verrado.
