The Boot goes to the Vipers Nest!
In a dominant performance, Verrado defeated Canyon View 42-7, reclaiming the coveted Boot trophy in their heated rivalry game. The win was a statement from Verrado, who controlled the game from start to finish, despite an early touchdown from Canyon View.
Verrado came out strong in the first quarter, scoring 21 points in a quick and powerful offensive display. Quarterback Chase Gieszler led the charge, throwing a pair of touchdowns to senior Caden Gingg and Jordan Hiller, who made key plays throughout the game. The ground game also made an impact, with Jack Isidore rushing for 176 yards and a touchdown, establishing dominance on the field.
Canyon View answered early, as quarterback Mickey Raftery connected with his receivers to move the ball, eventually putting together a touchdown drive to make it 21-7 in the first quarter. However, that would be the last time Canyon View found the end zone. Verrado’s defense, led by linebacker Tyson Fuller and defensive back Caden Gingg, tightened up after that and shut down Canyon View’s offense for the rest of the game. The defense also forced key turnovers, including an interception, and stopped Canyon View from gaining any momentum in the second half.
In the second quarter, Verrado continued to control the game, adding a touchdown to make it 28-7 at halftime. The third and fourth quarters saw Verrado further cement their lead with additional touchdowns from Gieszler and Isidore. Canyon View struggled to find a rhythm, and despite their efforts, they were unable to answer back.
Canyon View's defense showed flashes of resilience, with Gavin Levin leading the team with 12 tackles and J. McCarthy adding 13 tackles and three tackles for loss. The defensive unit worked hard to slow Verrado down, but they couldn't contain the balanced attack from the home team.
Verrado’s Jordan Hiller was perfect on extra points, going 6-for-6, and his consistency helped extend their lead with each touchdown. With the victory, Verrado claimed the Boot trophy and handed Canyon View their first shutout in the rivalry for the year. This dominant performance showcased Verrado’s well-rounded team effort and marked a key moment in the rivalry, with the Boot returning to their possession.
